Reports / Results of County & National Competitions, Bucks Cup and Chiltern & Thames Mixed League
In the Double 4s we lost by 5 shots at Home to a Gerrards Cross 4, and were beaten by High Wycombe in the Top Club, at Home, by 3 rinks to 2.
The Ladies' Top Club team went out of their Top Club Competition, Away to Princes Risborough, by 5 rinks to 1.
Unlucky Folks. Better luck next year.
----------------------------
It's 'Bucks Cup' time again !! Our lads first Match was against Chess Vale, 2 Rinks of Triples at home and 2 away.
Our 2 Triples at Home won their games, but the 2 Triples Away lost theirs. The overall shot difference was 3 shots to Chess Vale, and the final points awarded were 10 to Chess Vale and 4 to Broomwade.
It is worth pointing out here that the Triple of Pete Evans, John Williams and Tim Timberlake, almost pulled off a remarkable comeback, being 12 - 0 down, and then 13 - 13 going into the last End, which, unfortunately they lost by 1 shot. Unlucky, but very well done !
We registered a good win against our next opponents, High Wycombe, gaining 10 points to their 4 points. This is a good boost in our efforts to keep our place in the Bucks Cup League.
However, Broomwade didn't do so well in the next 2 Matches, against Marlow and Princes Risborough, gaining 4 points against Marlow, but only 2 points against Princes Risborough.
Our final Match against Chesham ended in a surprise victory for Broomwade. Winning on 3 of the 4 Triple rinks, Broomwade gained 12 points to Chesham's 2.
Well done chaps. That was our final match in the Bucks Cup for 2011, and ensured a further season in that Competition, with 32 points overall.

Tim Timberlake and Neville Pye had to 'fight' it out between them in the 2nd Round of the County Secretary's Cup, having both been given byes in the 1st Round.
Nev came out on top in this encounter, and then had to face Ian Harvey of Marlow, at Home in Round 3. Nev couldn't quite overcome his opposition on this occasion.
Unlucky chaps ! Next Season then ?

Following his success in our Men's Singles Competition last Season, Terry Blois was Brommwade's representative in the Champion of Champions Competition, and was drawn to play against John Welch of Louwater, at Home, in the 1st Round.
Terry was narrowly beaten.

In the first Chiltern/Thames League Match of the new Season Broomwade eventually overcame Bassetsbury Manor, at Home, gaining 6 points to Bassetsbury's 4 points. A steady start.
Our Ladies' 4, Betty Steane, Marjorie Ansell, Geraldine Blois, and Skip, Margaret Stagg, lost Away at Chesham, in the County Competition.

The next match, at Home, against Cippenham on 22 May, was not quite so successful, with Broomwade gaining 2 points to Cippenham's 8 points.
In the next match, at Home to Wargrave, Broomwade gained 4 points to the opponents 6 points, winning on 2 Rinks, but losing by enough on the 3rd Rink to lose on Shots in the whole Match.
In the return match, at Wargrave, the result was the same, a win for Wargrave by 6 points to 4 points.
It looks like a mid-table finish at the end of the season unless Broomwade can come up with a at least a couple of good wins in the final matches.
The next match, away at Cippenham, has, hopefully, helped Broomwade turn the corner, with a very good win, gaining 8 points to Cippenham's 2points.
However, away to Bassetsbury, saw Broomwade going down once again, by 6 points to 4 points, although they won on 2 of the 3 Rinks.
The final 2 Matches are vital to gain at least a mid-table position, but unfortunately, Broomwade lost on all 3 Rinks, away to Flackwell Heath, so going down by 10 points to Nil.
In the Final Match, at Home to Flackwell Heath, Broomwade pulled off an 8 points to 2 points victory, winning on 2 of the 3 rinks. This gave them a mid-table finish for the Season.

In the Ladies' County Triples, Marjorie Ansell, Betty Steane and Skip, Margaret Stagg, lost Away to a triple from Chesham.

Two of our Ladies' Pairs met in the Round 1 of the Ladies' County Pairs Competition. Pat Cox and Ann Smith won through to the next Round by beating Brenda Pears and Val Edmondson.

Well done, Emily.

In the 1st Round proper of the Chiltern / Thames Mixed Triple Knock-Out Competition, the Broomwade Triple of Bobbie Richards, Tony Edmondson & Skip, Neville Pye, were away, at Harefield. They came away winners by 17 shots to 6.
In the 2nd Round they were at Home to a Triple from Chesham Bowling Club, which they won on a testy rink. Well done !
In the next round, the Quarter-final, the Broomwade Triple played away at Chess Vale. In a closely fought
match, the visitors came away worthy winners.
Very well done, and best of luck in the Semi-final, to be played at Broomwade on 18 September.
Our Broomwade Triple managed to overcome a Triple from Glory Mill Bowls Club in the Semi-final by 22 shots to 11, but failed at the Final hurdle to a Triple from Harefield Bowls Club, by 13 shots to 19.
But, well done to our Triple on another successful season in this Competition.

In Round 1 of the National Mixed 4s, Emily Rampton, Leigh-Anne Kirby, Tony Edmondson and Skip, Ian McLeod, were at Home to a 4 from Hazlemere, and won through comfortably to the next Round.
They were at Home again, in Round 2, coming up against a 4 from Burnham, and again they won, with an end to spare.
In the 3rd Round the Broomwade were Away to Iver Heath. But this was a step too far, going down by 24 shots to 15.
They did progress one Round further than last year, which is creditable. Well done.

The Broomwade 4 of Malcolm Johnson, Gerry Pears, Tony Edmondson, and Skip, Eric Syme, took part in the Cheddington Men's 4s Gala on 24 July.
Unlike last year, when they came away outright winners of the Competition, this time round they came away unable to register a single win in their 4 games. How the mighty have fallen !!!
Next year, then ?

Congratulations ! ........... to Val Edmondson, Eric Smith, Ann Smith and Skip, Tony Edmondson on winning the Winslow Mixed Rinks Gala Day at Winslow Bowling Club.
Winning all 4 of their Games on the day, each Game consisting of 8 ends, and narrowly beating Leighton Buzzard into 2nd place by 4 points. Wolverton came 3rd.
They were presented with the Spinney Cup and Prize at the end of the day.
Well done, once again !

After an excellent champaign, our Vi Trundell Ladies' Team were defeated in their very last Match against Loudwater. Up to that point they had won ALL their matches in the Champtionship.
Unlucky, Ladies ! It'll have to wait another year. But, very well done, nonetheless.
