The Game of Bowls is usually played as Singles, Pairs, Triples or Fours (sometimes referred to as Rinks).
In Singles matches two players bowl four bowls alternately, the winner being the first player to score 21 shots. There are variations to this procedure.
In a Pairs match, two players make up each team, with the Leads playing their four bowls alternately, followed by the Skips, who then bowl their four bowls. The winning team in a Pairs match is the team having scored the most shots at the end of 21 ends of play.
A Triples team is made up of 3 players, a , a Second and a , each playing with three bowls, and the match is usually played over 18 ends. The Triple scoring most shots over 18 ends is the winner.
In a Fours (or Rinks) match each player - Lead, , and Skip - has two bowls, which they bowl alternately for 21 ends. The winner is the team which scores most shots.
The above are the generally accepted versions of the matches played, but there are variations to these.
